Ambivalent – Scorpio E.P (Octopus)

Hey Guys!

Has been a little while but we are back with a bang with this monster E.P from Ambivalent on Sian‘s Octopus Recordings.

Ambivalent has established himself as one of the leaders in Techno. Spending his time between New York and Berlin you can clearly hear how both cities have had an impact on his sound and the approach that he takes to making music. He has created a unique style that flirts across different genres with ease whilst always keeping its roots firmly in Techno. Cutting his teeth as part of the Minus family has given him the platform to bring this uinque sound to the masses of the underground and we are in no doubt his following will continue to grow for a long time to come.

This is his first E.P on Octopus and we are sure its an honour for Sian to have him on the label. Octopus continues to go from strength to strength and when the label can attract such heavy weights as Ambivalent it is clear they are doing something right.

The E.P is a 3 track affair and whilst all 3 tracks are solid and will do damage on any techno floor we have selected Sinduda as our pick!

As always please support and share the music!

8.5Sian – The Policeman Inside You (Octopus Records)

Sian Policeman Octopus

Sian – The Policeman Inside You (Octopus Records)

So the guys over at Octopus are celebrating a milestone of  50 releases! And there is no better way to celebrate than a huge stomping release from label boss Sian. Especially a release that contains two tracks from the man himself and two remixes from Ambivalent and Sam Paganini! You know what to expect when those kind of names are involved in a release, pure techno at its finest, and that is certainly whats on offer here.

We have a lot of respect for Sian and what he has built with Octopus, It’s a label that has a very strong identity and and he has created a unique sound whilst attracting some of the biggest names in the underground onto the label for releases, remixes and compilations. It’s not easy to juggle both a label and a hectic touring career but he has managed to make it work seamlessly. We have obviously worked closely with him and label partner Chris with our own releases on the label so we can vouch for the professionalism of the label first hand!

Back to the release, It’s all about peak time techno which is what the label has built a solid reputation for! Our pick of the 4 is the lead track titled “The Policeman Inside You”. It’s a track that oozes impact, power and a ferocious low end. We are sure Sian has been destroying dance floors all over the world with this bomb and now we are guessing it will destroy the techno charts! All 4 tracks are solid and Ambivalent and Sam Paganini have really delivered with two amazing remixes.

15.4WHYT NOYZ – SynthesiZe E.P (Octopus Black)

WHYT NOYZ Synthesize EP Octopus Black

WHYT NOYZ – SynthesiZe E.P (Octopus Black)

So after a crazy night in Glasgow on Saturday we have a great start to this new week with our latest E.P on Octopus Recordings Black Label.

It is a huge honour for us to be releasing music on Octopus, the labels owner Sian has long been an inspiration to us and to have his support is a great feeling. This E.P is being released on Octopus Black which is a new sub label set up by Sian for special edition releases. We spoke to Sian about the release and Octopus Black, he told us “basically the idea is to present it alongside the original Octopus as a more stripped down and afterhour feel. This release fits perfectly into that area, slightly dark, ghetto bass and watertight production. Something a little more for illegal techno party rather than established main room club” We look forward to seeing what else is in store for Octopus Black!

If releasing on one of our favourite labels wasn’t enough we have also been fortunate enough to have Pig & Dan on the package with a HUGE remix of SynthesiZe. We couldn’t be happier with how the mix turned out and it certainly raised a few smiles and fists when we dropped it at the weekend! Right, enough talk check out some short snippets of the three tracks below.

23.3Mladen Tomic – Dance Of Shadows E.P (SCI+TEC)

Mladen Tomic – Dance Of Shadows E.P (SCI+TEC)

SCI+TEC return with yet another huge release and this time it’s Bosnian rising star Mladen Tomic at the helm. We have come to expect high quality releases from SCI+TEC but the music coming from the label seems to be getting stronger with each release. Many young producers look up to Dubfire and it’s a testament to his character that he recognises this and gives such a great platform for them to be able to showcase their music and talent. Dubfire has a great system of being able to test out many of the demos he gets sent for the label during his rigorous touring schedule. This allows his to see first hand which tracks are really working with the crowd which we are sure is playing a huge part in why SCI+TEC is so formidable as a label right now.

Mladen Tomic fits into the above category perfectly. Dubfire has been a long time supporter of Mladen’s music and so it was just a matter or time before Ali picked up an E.P for SCI+TEC. It was definitely worth the wait and we feel this is without doubt some of Mladen’s strongest work to date! He has been steadily building a solid fan base over the last few years with an array of impressive releases on labels such as Octopus, Terminal M and of course his very own Night Light Records which he runs with his close friend and fellow Bosnian Sinisa Tamamovic. This feels like another step forward for Mladen and it’s great to see his hard work and determination paying off and we are looking forward to seeing him progress further!

Its rare for Ali to pick up 4 tracks for an E.P on the label but we can see how he would have had a hard time turning down any of the bombs on offer here. All 4 are perfectly crafted techno records that have Mladen’s signature groove all over them. We agree with Ali on the lead track though, Fittingly titled “First Choice” is an absolute monster, we dare you to try and sit still whilst listening to it!.

4.3DJ Boris – 2 Me (Octopus)

DJ Boris 2 Me Octopus NOYZ Audio

We have become accustomed to a constant supply of heavy peak time techno bombs from Sian‘s label Octopus and this latest release from New Yorker DJ Boris certainly sits in that category!

DJ Boris has become somewhat of a legend in techno circles and has held firmly to his roots bringing his unique style of big room electronic music to the U.S long before the EDM craze hit their shores. He has held residencies at the key spots in New York since 2004 including Crobar and Pacha and has since travelled the world picking up a vast and dedicated fan base in the process. We were really impressed by his recent release on SCI+TEC titled New Generation and his debut E.P for Octopus follows on from that perfectly keeping the standard equally as high.

Both tracks are extremely solid but its the lead track titled ’2 Me’ that is the one for us. It’s difficult to take a sample from a classic dance record and make it work and sound credible in an underground track but DJ Boris has nailed it to perfection. The beats are dark and ferocious and give the ideal platform for that huge bassline that just roars throughout the track. Definitely one for the big rooms! We won’t spoil the fun, see if you can guess where that sample is from!….

16.2Mr. Bizz – Memory Lost (SCI+TEC)

Mr Bizz - Memory Lost SCI+TEC NOYZ Audio

Another killer release from SCI+TEC and this time Mr Bizz are at the helm to deliver a huge slice of peak time techno with this track Memory Lost.

Brothers Fabrizio and Matteo Floris aka Mr. Bizz have established themselves as certified bomb makers amongst many of the techno elite. They have gathered support from Richie Hawtin, Sian and Dubfire to name a few and its not hard to see why when you listen to their dark and twisted take on techno. They have created a unique and trademark sound that has found a home with many of the most respected labels including Octopus, Suara and now they arrive on SCI+TEC for their debut release on the label.

Memory Lost is the third track on the Reversion E.P that was released this week. We received the promo a couple of weeks ago and whilst all three tracks are solid it is this track that really stood out for us and will be a regular in our sets for a while to come! The track is laced with a constant atmosphere that sits above the dark and chunky drums creating an air of tension throughout. It really gets going when the dark percussive synth stabs enter the fray to take the track into an even darker and more hypnotic territory.

14.11Secret Cinema vs Max D-Loved – Wow Cat (The Junkies Remix)

Today we deliver a slice of techno from two of our favourite producers – The Junkies

This remix which was released this week on Sian‘s Octopus Records has the trademark sound of The Junkies all over it. Like any track that is produced by these guys the low end of the track thumps hard, whilst the live drums and clever chopped vocals keep the track grooving along nicely. You have probably noticed how much love we have for a certain Carlo Lio and its really no surprise that Carlo and The Junkies are close friends. All are Toronto natives and have become label mates on Dubfire‘s SCI+TEC label.

The Junkies also have their own label Local Music which has seen some excellent releases and is growing rapidly. One of our favourite techno releases of this year, Ron Costa – La Cage Invisible was released on the label in January of this year with a remix from none other than Carlo Lio & The Junkies. Make sure you check it out if you love stomping techno (which obviously you do as you are reading this website)

Right enough chat here is the remix in all its glory.
