WHYT NOYZ – They E.P (SCI+TEC)

It has been a crazy start to the year for us with our Minus release picking up support from the one and only Pete Tong on his BBC Radio 1 show. The “Back To The Future E.P” received an incredible reaction and gave us a great feeling moving into the New Year.

We are really excited to release our first E.P of the year on Dubfire‘s label SCI+TEC. It was in February last year that we released our Homewurk E.P on his label so it feels great to be back 12 months later!

This time we have four tracks of driving techno which have received support from the likes of the label boss himself of course, Richie Hawtin, Adam Beyer and Carlo Lio to name a few. We are always a little reserved when reviewing our own tracks on the blog but please take a listen and let us know what you think….

28.11Matador – Zoles E.P (Minus)

Matador – Zoles E.P (Minus)

So after a little hiatus from the reviews whilst we wrote a LOT of new music we thought what better way to return than with a review from our pal Gav Matador with his latest release on home label Minus.

After a long summer season touring the worlds biggest festivals with Richie Hawtin and Ibiza’s hottest club night Enter, Matador was clearly feeling inspired to deliver an E.P to the label that has given him the platform he deserves.

The E.P is trademark Matador. Dark synth lines laden over growling basslines and ferocious beats. He certainly knows how to create strong hooks in his tracks. We feel the sign of a good producer is when listening to a track you can tell who produced it without having to look at the track title! Matador definitely has a knack for that as his tracks are quickly identifiable, he just seems to have crafted a unique sound, a hard thing to do in todays times.

Our pick of the 5 track E.P is lead track “Zoles” but it’s a tough one to call! Make up your own mind and check out the full E.P below.

Keep checking back on these pages as you may see another release on Minus on December 9th that you may like!

Joran Van Pol – _Conscious E.P (Minus)

You may remember we interviewed our good friend Joran Van Pol last year. Well we are really excited to have him back on these pages with his debut E.P for Minus.

Joran has recently been welcomed into the Minus family and rightfully so. At the young age of 23 this is a huge achievement and just the start to what we think will be an incredible career. It’s no surprise that Richie Hawtin has signed Joran. His track “Faded” was a mainstay in Richie’s sets throughout last year and we witnessed first hand the damage that the track does on a big sound system when both Dubfire & Richie opened their sets with it at Awakenings at the Gashouder last October.

This E.P is the perfect lead up to Faded. It’s clear that Joran has an extremely identifiable sound which is so important with the amount of music that is released every day. Its difficult to stand out from the crowd but he has managed to do this whilst also keeping his own identity and branding well aligned and consistent. Whilst all tracks on the E.P are equally as strong our pick is the second track “Detach”. Check it out below.

We spoke to Joran about the release and whats he has planned in the near future. He told us “It’s a great honour for me to put out my first EP on one of the most respected techno labels in the world. Faded is coming out on the MINUSminMAX compilation end of may, then an EP on SCI+TEC mid june and I have an amazing festival season coming up with festivals like Awakenings, Welcome to the Future and Indian Summer”.

16.2Mr. Bizz – Memory Lost (SCI+TEC)

Mr Bizz - Memory Lost SCI+TEC NOYZ Audio

Another killer release from SCI+TEC and this time Mr Bizz are at the helm to deliver a huge slice of peak time techno with this track Memory Lost.

Brothers Fabrizio and Matteo Floris aka Mr. Bizz have established themselves as certified bomb makers amongst many of the techno elite. They have gathered support from Richie Hawtin, Sian and Dubfire to name a few and its not hard to see why when you listen to their dark and twisted take on techno. They have created a unique and trademark sound that has found a home with many of the most respected labels including Octopus, Suara and now they arrive on SCI+TEC for their debut release on the label.

Memory Lost is the third track on the Reversion E.P that was released this week. We received the promo a couple of weeks ago and whilst all three tracks are solid it is this track that really stood out for us and will be a regular in our sets for a while to come! The track is laced with a constant atmosphere that sits above the dark and chunky drums creating an air of tension throughout. It really gets going when the dark percussive synth stabs enter the fray to take the track into an even darker and more hypnotic territory.

Check out the track below.

31.1Justin James – Shallow Dreamer (SCI+TEC)

Justin James Shallow Dreamer Artwork NOYZ Audio

Our New Horizons buddy Justin James stepped up this week delivering his first E.P for Dubfire‘s SCI+TEC label.

There must be something in the water in Canada. Two of our favourite producers Carlo Lio and The Junkies hail from Toronto whilst Justin comes from the same place where it all began for Richie Hawtin, Windsor. It must be hard not to be inspired when one of your heroes has grown up on your doorstep and become one of the pioneers of electronic music and Justin has obviously fed off this inspiration and worked hard to create his own sound that to put it plainly ROCKS!. This hard work has paid huge dividends with both Richie Hawtin and Dubfire giving Justin’s tracks a massive amount of support over the last 12 months.

We are featuring the lead track from his E.P today titled “Shallow Dreamer”. The track is based around a very hypnotic percussive lead that keeps growing throughout the track but what really does it for us is that deep chugging bassline that whacks you straight in the chest. Very nice work! We know Justin has some very exciting projects lined up for 2013 so keep you eyes and ears peeled!

Also we spoke to Justin and he tells us he is having a release party so if you are in the area click here for event details.

24.1Fabio Florido – What We Think E.P (Selected Records)

Fabio Florido – What We Think E.P (Selected Records)

We love exposing new talent at NOYZ and we are very happy to bring yet another Italian producer to your attention!. Fabio Florido is the man in question today and he has delivered a BOMB E.P on Selected Records.

We have been keeping our eye on Fabio’s productions for a while and have heard his sound develop and progress with each release. We really feel he has delivered his best work yet with this selection of tracks. The E.P is a well balanced affair which spans from warm up material through to peak time techno.

The lead title track “What We Think” is an atmospheric monster that is made for big, dark and sweaty rooms. It has already received support from Richie Hawtin who obviously agrees with our opinion on Fabio! Then you have “Finger of Yod” and “Rain & Sun” which are slightly more reserved and focussed on the groove but still very dark and enticing none the less. Our pick of the bunch is “Black Dot”. The bassline is infectious whilst the drums really form a solid groove that would keep even the most tired legs moving at 6 am in the morning.

Check out  a clip of Black Sun below.
